There is no single issue that prompted me to run for Select Board. What pulled me towards service are the opportunities we have in front of us to strengthen our future.
Here is a little more about me, my goals, and my thoughts on the most pressing issues our town is facing now.
My Vision
My Story
I grew up in Oakland, ME (right next to Waterville), a town about the same size as Hollis. I wanted to help people and felt physical therapy was the best way for me to do that. I received my Bachelor's Degree and my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Husson University in Bangor where I fell in love with my wife and mother of my two smart, funny, beautiful daughters.
I was furloughed from my outpatient physical therapy job in March of 2020 and without skipping a beat, started my own mobile physical therapy practice where our team helps people build a resilient body they can be confident in. I wanted more for my patients than what the traditional PT world could provide and blazed my own trail. I have grown that business from a one-person show to a team of four (two full time therapists, a marketing/administrative position, and myself).
I am excited for the opportunity to use my experiences to help our community grow a strong future without losing what makes us proud of our community now.
I have been a part of civic & philanthropy based organizations for most of my life. Cub Scouts up through Eagle Scout. Board of Directors for a Student Run Pro Bono Physical Therapy Practice at Husson University. Board of Directors for the Maine Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. I was raised to value civic duty and service. Helping your neighbor is a badge of honor and, not only a duty, but an obligation in a small town like I came from...just like Hollis. Life brought me to southern Maine. My wife and I chose Hollis to be part of a community like that. I am ready to serve that community.
Elected Positions to Appointed Positions
We overwhelmingly voted to expand the Select Board and hire a town manager. We now have a committee in place to explore our options of making elected positions such as Treasurer, Town Clerk, and Tax Collector appointed positions. I am in favor of this alongside a town charter to better define roles, ensure qualified individuals are hired for these rolls, and ensure accountability within our Town Hall.
Optimize Our New Government Structure
Bar Mills Dam Decommissioning
We have to work closely with the Bar Mills Dam Decommissioning Committee to ensure Brookfield doesn't take advantage of us by leaving us with more work to do that could cost us millions in tax dollars. Protecting our environment and the best interests of the town is paramount.
Protect Our Best Interests
TIF Account
Incredible Opportunities
This account has "use it or lose it" funds from Poland Spring's property taxes. We have an incredible opportunity to work alongside the committee exploring how to best use these funds to bolster the future of Hollis. To me, no opportunities should be written off. We need to explore all options with an open mind to make the best decision for our future.
Leadership. Critical Thinking. Sound Decision Making.
Strength for Our Families.
A Backbone for Our Town.
Community Development
Continuing to invest in our town's future by building a strong community to attract families to our town is worthwhile. Our rec department, the sports complex, and our libraries are great resources to the young families in our town, and new families looking to lay down their roots. This will serve all current residents as well!
Business Development
Attracting more businesses to our town that actually serve the needs of the people will help ease our tax burden and strengthen our community. I want to hold town hall meetings to learn what businesses our residents need. Also, networking events and entrepreneurial workshops will support our current establishments and encourage and support others to start businesses here.
Communication
We have made great strides here (you can sign up for communication alerts from the town website) but we can improve still. Keeping the town informed on a regular basis strengthens our community, and making it easier for residents to inform themselves on issues is a big goal of mine.
Transparency & Integrity
I have pressed the previous Select Board on decisions they have made that were clearly done outside of the public forum and passed off as standard operating procedures. If I am elected, the public will stay informed and every decision made will be done with the ability for the public to comment and hold us accountable.
Eagle Scout. Business Owner. Multiple Board Positions. These experiences helped me grow as a leader. One who understands the impact our decisions have on the voters. The kind of leader our growing town needs.
